kitchen lighting solutions

I had many questions about the details of cuisine available. Questions like: What is the standard counter height of the word to the top of the bar, or what is the standard toe-kick. The list is long. Are there any special equipment or cabinets? In this article I will cover the bases, cabinets, flooring, lighting, electricity, and eventually devices.

Cabinets
Most cabinet manufacturers offer specific cabinets ADA compliant, which will give you a final height of the counter top 32 "from the floor to the top of the bar. It will also kick the appropriate finger 9" high by 6 "deep. This gives room for the footrest of a wheelchair to slide under the edge of the cabinet. However, this does not allow access above a sink or cook. Low furniture to house these elements must have knee space under the counter. The upper cabinets have now another set problems. Even if installed at the height error over the cabinet base only the bottom shelf can be accessed by a person sitting in an armchair stock. Personally, I like to a 6 "so that the two bottom shelves are available. Or you could save costs and allow Forthcoming. A final element, the base cabinet must be large deep drawers instead of doors cabinets because they are more accessible. Â

Apartments
The soil must be hard surface like wood or ceramic tile or stone. You should avoid any kind of story that becomes more or less favorable. This type of soil, it is difficult to move a manual wheelchair around like he does or carpeting. Avoid them if possible. Even the most innocent of carpet in the kitchen can be a tripping hazard for people with disabilities and the elderly.
Â
Lighting
With the current need to be green, the lighting of the kitchen is open longer considered specialty. The use of CFL (Compact Fluorescent Light) bulbs and task lighting, led, low voltage cabinet is commonplace. So the only thing you really have to say is that it is necessary to provide for lighting in all areas of food preparation.
Â
Electric
This is an area which is often neglected in the extent and for how to install electrical outlets and switches in a kitchen available. Â The plugs are usually behind the basis of the firm, either above or splashing. For someone sitting in a wheelchair, it means they have to do a dangerous extent, to local use. It is preferable to mount the production in the face of the cabinet base, just below the counter. Or a popup multi-output can be installed on your desktop within reach of wheelchair occupants. The switches must be placed 48 "above the floor so they are accessible to wheelchair users. Type switches use password to those with limited use of his fingers. Finally, the catches are not in a wall furnished must be at least 18 "above the ground for a variety of security in a wheelchair.

Appliances
Although there is no need for specialized equipment or custom, certain types of devices are best in a kitchen available. Begin with the stove, for example, a conventional range can be used, a cook and separate top oven unit must be used. As mentioned previously, the cook-top is required knee space under the cabinet. The oven must be mounted on a cabinet base that can be easily loaded and downloaded. A level heat-resistant surface of the counter should be provided in the mold hot outside. Then, a drawer-type dishwasher may be mounted conventional and easily accessible from a wheelchair. However, a dishwasher standard front-loading will be raised 9 "to make easier to upload and download. The sinks must be mounted behind the drains to allow the space below the knee and still allow suppression. The microwave oven must be installed under the counter. Finally, the refrigerator or you need a side by side model or a French model with the freezer door on the bottom.
Â
There are probably other things you can do to make a kitchen more accessible. Try to sit in a standard kitchen chair facing a problem and ask yourself, what can change, that will make this region more accessible. AI hope this helps those of you who need to cook more accessible to a wheelchair. If you have any questions, please ask. Remember that the promotion of Peace and Love of God ….. Â

My bad – I have to move my garden?

I'm in Memphis, Zone 7. I planted a "Square Foot Garden" (raised garden of bed), full of vegetables in my new home. Peppers, peas, beans, tomatoes, watermelons, pumpkins, herbs, etc. exactly where I thought I had chosen was the sun. Do not know how I threw up … Looks like my bed into only about 3 hours of sun daily, noon until 3:00. Is it necessary to move the beds? It will not be easy, but possible before the plants become too large. To say that I dug all the grass beneath them. Sigh. Thank you!

It is not necessary to move the beds this year, but 3 hours of direct sunlight affect the production of their plants. If, after the end of their harvest, not satisfied with the amount or the rate of harvesting, consider moving gardens. Gardening is not a science but an art that requires time, effort and patience, and produces an enormous amount of enjoyment, not to mention food. Good luck.
